Kalo Westerly, the impoverished son of a farmer and weaver, never expected his life to be extraordinary. He certainly never imagined he would meet Rosalie, the beautiful Princess of the Keemja Desert, during a chance encounter in the local marketplace. Throughout the years that follow, the two of them become inseparable friends despite their drastically different positions in society. As they mature and reach a marriageable age, Kalo grows to love the princess, although he is never sure if she feels the same way about him. After deciding he will propose to Rosalie at her eighteenth birthday celebration, Kalo is distraught upon learning she has been kidnapped by a ruthless group of villains who call themselves the Blood Bandits. Determined to do everything in his power to save her, Kalo embarks on a quest that could ultimately claim his life. He soon discovers the Blood Bandits are just one of many dangers lurking in the Keemja Desert, a region filled with deadly wildlife, treacherous terrain, and other sinister threats that would frighten even the bravest of souls.
