But eventually, they agreed it would be best for Kate and the baby to settle there, while Gerrit went back to work in Chicago.When her time came to board the train to her new life, she realized she was going alone. Good neighbors promised to help. A couple years later, they welcomed a new baby girl, and with her, Gerrit, and his shopping list for an operating farm.
