Synopsis "L'esclau del Mercadal (Esguard)"

L’Hug pertany a una família de comerciants que anhela ascendir socialment. Però ell no vol seguir l’ofici del pare, sinó servir el rei Pere III. En la Girona del segle XIV, aquest jove cristià, un altre de religió jueva –en Jucef– i en Suliman, un dels pocs esclaus de la ciutat, es fan amics. I això els portarà molts problemes. En una època en què la intolerància, les revenges i l’odi a la diversitat eren l’única transacció possible entre les diferents comunitats, tots tres lluitaran per la seva parcel·la de llibertat. L’esclau del Mercadal, Premi Bancaixa de Nar-rativa Juvenil 2003, reflecteix els problemes d’interrelació que sorgeixen entre col·lectius diferents. Una qüestió que resulta, malauradament, molt actual.
