Las nociones de modelo y ejemplaridad proceden de una tradición literaria que se remonta al exemplum medieval. ¿En qué medida sigue siendo posible una ejemplaridad de la narrativa a finales del siglo XX y principios del XXI? La novela posmoderna bien parece ser el lugar de una ruptura entre moral y estética: la literatura ya sólo hablaría de literatura. Sin embargo, las teorías de la literatura más recientes han vuelto a reflexionar acerca del vínculo que mantiene con el mundo circundante, y han intentando analizar cómo puede influir en el lector, si no de manera explícita y totalmente controlada por el autor, sí de manera más compleja e indirecta, y a veces en los lugares menos esperados por el propio autor.
