Poeta, animador cultural y profesor universitario peruano, nacido en Salaverry (en el departamento norteño y costero de Salaverry) el 30 de septiembre de 1935 y fallecido en Lima el 21 de agosto de 2017. Adscrito a las generaciones de los años 50 y 60, fue una de las voces más ricas y sugerentes de la poesía peruana contemporánea, y uno de los poetas hispanoamericanos más galardonados en todo el mundo.
