In these memoirs, the author wishes to recount the resurgence of a community that had been decimated and almost annihilated as a result of a war that lasted several years, and of a postwar period whose end has yet to be seen. The Spanish Civil War was the cause of this disaster, which undermined the low level of science in Spain, despite the Nobel Prize won by Santiago Ramon y Cajal. This situation led to economic disaster, social, moral and spiritual ruin and international disrepute. A parenthesis and a vacuum were created in which only the smouldering remains of the unreasonable battle waged and a diffuse horizon to be reached by those survivors who were left among the warm ashes as a symbol of the sad memory of all that had been lost.
