Creció en una pequeña ciudad de Massachusetts y se matriculó en la Universidad del Sur de California, en Los Ángeles. Allí se licenció en escritura cinematográfica. Como escritora y guionista, ella misma dice utilizar su carrera como excusa para leer demasiados libros y ver demasiadas películas. La reina Roja es su debut literario y la primera parte de una trilogía cuya secuela será publicada en 2016.
