La Ley es la obra más representativa de Bastiat. El mensaje que se traslada en el libro es que el individuo es nuestra razón de ser, y que toda forma de Estado debe beneficiar al individuo. Tristemente, el Estado pierde su sentido y se gira en contra del individuo, expoliándole. A esto lo llamó Bastiat socialismo. Recordar el aspecto del individuo y ponerlo en un plano predominante es lo más valioso de la aportación de Bastiat. Cuestión distinta y objeto de mucho más debate es cuánto Estado necesitamos para hacer esto posible.
