Un policía de Moscú es represaliado por el Soviet Supremo a un nuevo destino en Ucrania, concretamente a Pripyat, la localidad más próxima a la central nuclear de Chernobil. Solo dos días después de su llegada es testigo de lo que acabará siendo la mayor tragedia nuclear de la Unión Soviética, silenciada por el poder en un intento de proteger a los responsables políticos de la catástrofe. Cuando están a punto de cumplirse treinta años de esa explosión y fuga radioactiva, fechada el 26 de abril de 1986, Alberto Pasamontes utiliza aquel episodio que impuslsó la Perestroika a costa de asolar toda una región rusa, para crear una novela negra, ganadora del XVIII Premio Francisco Pavón de Narrativa Policíaca, donde un investigador busca en solitario a los verdaderos artífices de aquel infierno.
