Casa de labrador en las afueras de Madrid, la Quinta fue comprada por Goya en 1819. En 1820 pintó sus paredes con los motivos más sombríos. Poco después el lugar fue cayendo en el olvido, perseguido por las desventuras, dando las llamadas Pinturas Negras pie a toda suerte de interpretaciones.En esta edición crítica aumentada, el autor sopesa las divergentes teorías surgidas recientemente sobre las salas y las pinturas de la Quinta, para, con carácter casi definitivo, deducir, con nuevas pruebas gráficas, la distribución real de las mismas.
