Lady Susan is a short epistolary novel by Jane Austen, possibly written in 1794 but not published until 1871. This early complete work, which the author never submitted for publication, describes the schemes of the title character.ady Susan Vernon, a beautiful and charming recent widow, visits her brother- and sister-in-law, Charles and Catherine Vernon, with little advance notice at Churchill, their country residence. Catherine is far from pleased, as Lady Susan had tried to prevent her marriage to Charles and her unwanted guest has been described to her as "the most accomplished coquette in England." Among Lady Susan's conquests in London is the married Mr. Mainwaring.Catherine's brother Reginald arrives a week later, and despite Catherine's strong warnings about Lady Susan's character, soon falls under her spell. Lady Susan toys with the younger man's affections for her own amusement and later because she perceives it makes her sister-in-law uneasy. Her confidante, Mrs. Johnson, to whom she writes frequently, recommends she marry the very eligible Reginald, but Lady Susan considers him to be greatly inferior to Mainwaring.Frederica, Lady Susan's 16-year-old daughter, tries to run away from school when she learns of her mother's plan to marry her off to a wealthy but insipid young man she loathes. Fue una novelista británica que vivió durante la época georgiana. Nació en la rectoría de Steventon (Hampshire). Ha sido llevada al cine en numerosas ocasiones, algunas veces reproducidas de forma fiel, como el clásico Más fuerte que el orgullo de 1940 dirigido por Robert Z. Leonard y protagonizada por Greer Garson y Laurence Olivier y en otras haciendo adaptaciones a la época actual, como es el caso de Clueless, adaptación libre de Emma. Otras versiones son la de Sentido y sensibilidad, de 1995; Mansfield Park, de 2000, y las de Orgullo y prejuicio en 2004 (dirigida por Gurinder Chadha) y en 2005 (dirigida por Joe Wright). Sin embargo, la versión más fiel y perfecta que hasta ahora se ha hecho del libro de Orgullo y prejuicio es la serie que presentó la BBC protagonizada por Colin Firth y Jennifer Ehle. El interés que la obra de Jane Austen sigue despertando hoy en día muestra la vigencia de su pensamiento y la influencia que ha tenido en la literatura posterior.
