this book introduces the findings of the authors inter-disciplinary research work covering the topical areas of laser materials processing and surface modification of biomaterials for enhanced biocompatibility. it describes the development of a successful laser-based technique to improve the bio-compatibility of selected ceramics and metals used for bone implants by the way of modifying their wettability characteristics. this is a clean, quick and inexpensive procedure compared to existing techniques amd can be applied to materials that hitherto could not be modified in terms of their bio-compatibility. the findings reported and the theory presented are generic and could, therefore, be applied across a range of applications in the biomaterials field. all of this work is highly scientific and hitherto unreported. this book serves as a practitioner guide and a medium to high-level reference text book.
