Robert Edward Fritz (Bob) served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. His service began at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and continued in California, Washington, and the South Pacific. These letters home are Bob's words written to his parents. At one point, his father joined the Merchant Marine and served in the South Pacific; Bob made carbon copies of his letters to send to both his mother at home and his father at sea. As a yeoman on a subchaser, Bob had responsibilities that gave him unique insights, and he used his writing skills to provide his parents, and now us, a detailed account of his Navy days.
