Synopsis "Los Romanticos"

Samar, un joven indio de diecinueve años, hijo de una familia de escasos recursos pero de la casta superior, alquila una pequeña habitación en Benarés, a orillas del Ganges. Su madre ha muerto dos años antes y su padre se ha retirado a un asram, después de confesarle a su hijo su desinterés por la vida familiar, y el error que cometió al casarse y fundar una familia, cuando lo que él realmente deseaba era ser un viajero muy ligero de equipaje. El joven Samar vive sin más compañía que la literatura que ama: Schopenhauer, Turgéniev, Flaubert y su melancólica mirada, tan cercana al fatalismo de la filosofía hindú, y sobre todo los ensayos de Edmund Wilson, que pretende utilizar como hilo conductor para comprender su caótico país y los confusos tiempos que le ha tocado vivir.
