That is, until a Mars rover falls into an underground alien structure and a three and a half billion year old message from Aiden's long-lost grandfather to young Aiden is discovered. With a world on the brink of nuclear war, an exploratory team is formed around Aiden and his graduate student Susan and rushed to Mars. But other powers have learned of the discovery on Mars and a race ensues to take and claim the alien structure for themselves. As his team attempts to defend the alien edifice, Aiden and Susan begin a journey of discovery that will take them back in time to his missing grandfather and the origin of the alien complex; to a war that began before the creation of the universe.
