Este libro es el resultado del proyecto expositivo que con el mismo título acoge 140 obras maestras del periodo comprendido entre el 1912 y los a�os 80, de 42 artistas europeos y americanos que trataron el tema del collage. Desde esta perspectiva, la comisaria Diane Waldman, plantea un recorrido por la historia del arte del siglo XX, es decir, la �poca de las avanguardias, a trav�s de sus diversas formas (papier coll�, fotomontage, ensamblage...) desde sus inicios con el cubismo (Picasso, Braque, Gris), hace casi m�s de cien a�os, siguiendo por el futurismo (Balla, Carr�), el dadaismo (Arp, Man Ray, Schwitters), la avanguardia rusa (El Lissitzki, Rodxenko), el surrealismo (Ernst, Magritte, Breton); los artistas de la post guerra en Europa (Dubuffet, Chillida, T�pies, Beuys); los artistas de post guerra en estados Unidos (Kline, Pollock), para acabar con Johns y Rauschenberg, que establecen un puente entre el expresionismo abstracto y el pop art. La comisaria ha querido tambi�n destacar el uso personal que Joan Mir� realiz� del collage tanto en pintura como en escultura.
