Der regulatorische Interferon-Faktor-2 ist ein Transkriptionsfaktor bei Wirbeltieren, der onkogenen Charakter hat und die Funktionen des regulatorischen Interferon-Faktors-1, eines Tumorsuppressorgens, antagonisiert. Knockout-Mäuse für das IRF-2-Gen zeigten einen Defekt in der B-Zell-Lymphopoese, sie starben nach LCMV-Infektionen (Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus). IRF-2 ist funktionell genau das Gegenteil von IRF-1. Da IRF-1-/- (Knock-out) Mäuse einen Mangel an CD8+T-Zellen und eine geringe Zytotoxizität von NK-Zellen aufwiesen, hätte man annehmen können, dass die Überproduktion von IRF-2 bei Mäusen dies wiederherstellen könnte. Dies ist jedoch nicht der Fall, und der Grund dafür ist unbekannt. IRF-2 bindet jedoch an die Sequenz des Interferon Stimulated Response Elements in virusinfizierten Zellen. In diesem Buch geht es um die cDNA-Klonierung des Maus-IRF-2-Gens und die Expression eines chimären Proteins in E. coli. Diese Studie wird als Plattform für die weitere Funktionsanalyse des chimären IRF-2 dienen, das unter abnormen Bedingungen ein potentes Onkogen ist.
