Julio Perla Díaz, a narcoleptic, was born in Barceloneta at the end of the 1970s, and from a young age his life took place on the streets, where he played even as he witnessed drug deals on every corner. That is until 1989, when a demonstration against the eviction of neighbors and shantytown dwellers in order to adapt the neighborhood to the “new Barcelona” results in an incident that changes his life. He then becomes Julio el Perla at the same time that his childhood surroundings are being transformed. Julio moves easily through the discotheques, distributing pills and quickly joining the world of John Claudio, a Colombian mob boss who adopts him as a disciple. Under the lens of Julio’s narcoleptic episodes, readers walk the line between the reality that is being told and the fiction brought about when Julio sleeps. Julio Perla Díaz, un narcoléptico, nació en la Barceloneta a finales de los setenta, y desde joven su vida transcurrió en las calles, donde jugaba mientras era testigo de cómo se trapicheaba con la droga en cada esquina. Ese fue el caso hasta el 1989, cuando una manifestación contra el desalojo de vecinos y chabolistas para adaptar el barrio a la “nueva Barcelona” resulta en un incidente que le cambia la vida. Se convierte entonces en Julio el Perla, al tiempo que el entorno que conoció durante la infancia se trasforma. Julio se mueve fácilmente en las discotecas, distribuyendo pastillas y rápidamente incorporándose al mundo de John Claudio, un capo colombiano que lo adopta como discípulo. Bajo los trastornos narcolépticos de Julio, el lector se mantendrá en la línea divisoria entre la realidad que se cuenta y la ficción provocada cuando Julio duerme.
