Synopsis "News From Nowhere: Exhibition's zine on displacement & refuge (in English)"

Curated for Refugee Week 2021, "News from Nowhere" presented the works of twenty artists and organisations that work on issues underlying the refugee crisis. The "Nowhere" from which the exhibition's "News" arrives is not William Morris' utopian country but the dystopian places no one would like to find themselves in: from the Mediterranean's abyss to the Palestinian occupied territories, from countries still persecuting LGBTQ+ people to countries where xenophobia and racism are still tolerated. The zine showcases some of the works from the exhibition as well as poetry by poets with migratory and refugee life experiences. The exhibition 'News from Nowhere' took place at the LGBT Ledward Centre and the Black and Ethnic Minorities Community Partnership (BMECP) Centre, Brighton, UK from June-July 2021. The exhibition was curated by Dr. Gil Mualem-Doron, SEAS's creative director. Participating artists and poets: Abdel, Alqumit Alhamad, Alinah Azadeh, Beiment, Colette Batten-Turner, Márcio Carvalho, Hong Dam, Menel Deab, Jasmine, 江峰 Jiang Feng, Irene Fubara, Bashir Al Gamar, Robin Hammond / Witness Change, Jean Marc Joseph, Eman Khokhar, Jane Lancashire, Layla Madanat and Eleanor Nawal, Gil Mualem-Doron, Dimitris Pagonis & Menelas, CJ Reay, Maja & Anna Spasova, SOGICA, Mathilda Della Torre, Visualising Palestine and Rami Yasir and Razia Aziz.
