Milestones of a journey through India glimpsed from hotel rooms, which nevertheless flashes with strange meetings: a prophet on a train, a Portuguese Jesuit, a Gnostic from the theological society, a monstrous dwarf who reads the karma to the pilgrims, the young photographer from the disgrace that is Calcutta Watermarked, beneath the disappearance of a friend, lies a literary myth: the renouncement of writing, the escape to far away lands, the transformation of the intellectual into a businessman. With ironic indifference and morbid impassivity, the author eludes the obvious traps of local colour in a splendid novel about the night and darkness of things.
