En el principio hubo nueve grabados coloniales sobre cuyas placas en blanco y negro el gran artista Francisco Toledo sobregrabó trazos y colores nuevos. Paralelamente, Carlos Monsiváis escribió una serie de textos a modo de catecismo para indios, con el loable fin de alejarlos de supercherías y encaminarlos por la buena senda. Aquellas ilustraciones y aquellos textos se juntaron en una edición limitadísima para bibliófilos. Un volumen tan hermoso como delicioso.
