Synopsis "Oneiromancy (in English)"
Oneiromancy is a book about resistance to male authority and power. First published in Chile in 1943, the book uses dreams, myths, folk-tales, rivers, books and disillusions to challenge the patriarchal norms of Latin American society and the apparent triumph of Fascism in Europe. Writing on behalf of the mothers of the world facing the hurricane of fascism, Winétt de Rokha combined documentary realism, social protest and Magical Realism to explore the layered meanings of history and landscape, love and politics, utopian dream and dystopian reality. The book was also a reply to her husbands Morfología del espanto published the same year. Oneiromancy is an extraordinary Latin American mix of Communism and Surrealism. Frida Kahlo meets Tina Modotti.
