Synopsis "Pass the Feather: Walking Lake Erie (Water Walkers) (in English)"
Pass the Feather: Walking Lake Erie is the story of a young Ojibway girl named Mai. Her family members are walking the perimeter of Lake Erie to raise awareness about the harm being done to the Great Lakes. On the journey, Mai learns about the Four Sacred Medicines and the special gifts and responsibilities given to all living things. Grandmother asks, "What do you think is the gift given to humans?" Will Mai embrace Grandmother's teaching, and will she receive the eagle feather?Pass the Feather: Walking Lake Erie is a tribute to the many Native women and men who in today's world have courageously walked thousands of miles to draw attention to the condition of the water. The cover of the book is modeled after "Hunkayapi"-the famous bronze statue by Dale Claude Lamphere. It depicts an older woman presenting an eagle plume to a younger woman. Illustrations are by Native American artist, David W. Craig. Included are common core state standards, web and print resources, cross-curriculum activities, and a glossary of environmental terms.
