Ziel dieses Buches war es, die Wirksamkeit des zwischen Zitronensäure und Eisen(III)-Ionen (Eisen(III)-itrat) gebildeten Komplexes als Auslöser der Photo-Fenton-Reaktion bei der Behandlung von Deponiesickerwasser zu bewerten. Die Sickerwasserproben wurden im regionalen Zentrum für die Behandlung fester Siedlungsabfälle in der Gemeinde Giruá (RS) gesammelt. Dieses Sickerwasser zeichnet sich durch eine starke Färbung und Trübung sowie einen hohen organischen Gehalt aus, der sich in hohen Werten des chemischen und biochemischen Sauerstoffbedarfs, des gesamten organischen Kohlenstoffs, der stickstoffhaltigen Formen und des Phosphors ausdrückt und ein hohes Verschmutzungspotenzial aufweist. Durch die Verwendung des organischen Liganden soll die Effizienz des Photo-Fenton-Prozesses verbessert werden, da er stabile und lösliche Komplexe mit Fe(III) bildet und Reaktionen bei einem höheren pH-Wert als bisher möglich ermöglicht.
