La primera salió en 1955, y desde entonces no he cesado de pulir mi artesanal trabajo de acercar a la lengua de hoy lo que se encuentra escrito en el manuscrito que considero como el original, cualquiera que haya sido el proceso de su creación, las reformas, renovaciones y copias que condujeron hasta él. La lección humana que representa el Poema del Cid fue de ayer, de una Edad Media que es lejana a nosotros, y creo que también vale para nuestros días.
