Se impone una reflexión sobre el lugar de la religión en una sociedad laica. No vale decir que en una sociedad moderna la religión es un asunto privado, es decir, algo que no debe traspasar el recinto de la conciencia o de los templos. La religión es, por el contrario, un asunto público. La Cátedra Santo Tomás pretende enriquecer la visión laica con la presencia de un patrimonio cultural de origen religioso. Esto queda bien expresado en la obra de teatro que Juan Mayorga ha creado para la ocasión. «La lengua hecha pedazos» habla de Teresa de Ávila, una mujer rompedora en un mundo conservador. ¿Puede renunciar alguien, aunque se diga laico, a la riqueza de este patrimonio?
