Synopsis "Retrato del Artista Como Saltimbanqui"

Desde el romanticismo, el bufón, el saltimbanqui y el payaso han sido imágenes hiperbólicas y a propósito deformantes, con las que los artistas han querido mostrarse a sí mismos y exponer la propia naturaleza del arte. Se trata de un autorretrato encubierto, cuya intención no se limita a la caricatura sarcástica o dolorosa. Una actitud tantas veces repetida, que se reinventa de forma tan obstinada a lo largo de tres o cuatro generaciones, no debe pasar desapercibida a nuestra atención. El juego irónico se emplea como interpretación de uno mismo por sí mismo: es una epifanía ridícula del arte y del artista. La crítica a la honorabilidad burguesa tiene, así, su equivalente en la autocrítica dirigida contra la propia vocación estética, uno de los componentes que se debe reconocer como característico de la modernidad, desde hace algo más de cien años. Jean Starobinski nació en ginebra en 1920.
