Como su nombre indica, el riego por goteo es un sistema de riegoque suelta el agua gota a gota, según su necesidad, humedeciendosólo una parte del suelo, aquella donde se concentran las raíces;por ello, también se llama riego localizado o de alta frecuencia,pues se aplica el agua casi a diario o en ocasiones más de una vezal día. Una de las principales ventajas es que permite la aplicaciónde fertilizantes a través del sistema, igualmente de maneralocalizada, siendo más eficiente; otra es la disminución significativadel volumen del agua que se usa, así, aunque inicialmente lainversión puede ser relativamente alta, ésta es compensada porlos incrementos que se logra en calidad y en cantidad. El objetivode este manual es aportar las nociones básicas de los equiposusados en el riego por goteo y su funcionamiento.
