La fenomenología de Husserl ha condicionado de manera decisiva la filosofía europea del siglo XX. La obra de Heidegger, Sartre o Merleau-Ponty hunde sus raíces en ella y, sin embargo, la han modificado creativamente de muy distintas maneras. Por eso mismo, el sentido del quehacer fenomenológico se ha tornado hoy para nosotros un problema. Este libro, en vez de abogar por una de las distintas orientaciones en que la “tradición fenomenológica” parece escindirse, trata de ensayar, sin adhesiones ni supuestos previos, una dilucidación fundamental de la fenomenología. Se trata, por tanto, de ganar última claridad en relación a esa tarea, casi paradójica, que aspira a dar cuenta de los fenómenos sometiéndose enteramente a ellos.
