Synopsis "Stress Analysis for Lightweight Structures: A Matlab Oriented Approach (in English)"

This book can be divided in two major parts: the first is all about basic concepts for structural mechanics, where statics and stress analysis are introduced together with bending, torsion and transverse shear for thin-walled structures, general energy methods and numerical methods including the finite element method; the second part includes the major innovative contributions of this book, which are the structural idealisation for the modelling of aircraft structures, the buckling and spar theory, shell element analysis and the modelling with composite materials. The Matlab scripts provided in the book can be summarised as follows: 1. a full Matlab code for the modelling of the transverse shear flow and bending of idealised aircraft structures; 2. Matlab functions for different finite elements, including struts, a plane stress triangular element, a 3D brick element with full integration, a shell element with full integration and a 3D solid-shell element with reduced integration; 3. Matlab scripts for the modelling of the buckling of plates and shells; 4. Matlab functions integrated with the finite elements presented for the modelling of composite structures. This book was designed for a wide target audience, which can include undergraduate and post-graduate students for mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering, but it is also targeted for the industry working on the design and production of components and/or machines made of lightweight or skinned structures.
