In the mountains, a group led by Fidel Castro begins to organize itself and start the revolution that will conclude with the fall of dictator Batista and the expulsion of Americans from Cuba. In Havana, the French arms dealer La Mazière flirts with a cabaret dancer who will facilitate his access to Cuba's rich and powerful. This novel is full of sharp observations on human nature and colonialist bias, which provide a deep understanding of the revolution’s causes.
