Irwin Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997). Fue una de las figuras más emblemáticas de la cultura alternativa norteamericana. La publicación del poema Aullido (Howl, 1956) fue el detonante que consolidó la poesía beat y le dio forma concreta. Alma de la Generación Beat, reunió a su alrededor a Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady e incluso al escurridizo William S. Burroughs y luchó sin descanso por la redacción y publicación de sus obras. Fue figura prominente de la llamada «Revolución de las Flores» y el hippismo de los años sesenta, peleó contra la guerra y el racismo, difundió el rock, la alteración química y mística de los estados de conciencia como elemento cultural y se situó siempre en primera línea social y literaria, promoviendo las ideas libertarias y las nociones de espiritualidad y autenticidad, por lo que siempre estuvo en el punto de mira de las autoridades. Viajó por el mundo recitando sus poemas.
