Leif is an ordinary young hunter, living with his great aunt and cousin in the small trading town of Trinell. His world is populated by every day men and women, animal half-breeds, and powerful creatures of myth including Griffins and Thunderbirds. Leif's world is turned upside down one day when he meets a Titan named Richard, who invites him to the enormous and magical Capitol city of Civilious, home to those that have the skills and talent to work with magical energies. There he attends the Academy of warriors and casters, where he learns of his newfound abilities. The city, a mecca full of beauty and fantasy, mystifies Leif instantly as he discovers his new identity as a caster and learns how the very world in which he lives has come to be. Soon everything changes when his honor is challenged and he is cast into a violent and dangerous adventure of a lifetime. Leif's skills are put to the ultimate test in combat against other warriors and casters in the Academy's great Tournament. Just like the gladiators of ancient Rome, they must compete for the entertainment of the Capitol's elite and their own honor. Leif's story is a thrill ride of fantasy, mystery, and romance as he embarks on a wonderful adventure.
