Synopsis "The First Marathon (in English)"

The book "The First Marathon" describes the Battle of Marathon and the circumstances around it. This description is made through the memories, thoughts and meditation of herald Fidippidis during his run from Marathon to Athens, in order to announce the victory of the Greeks against the Persians. This first book of Stefanos Karapetsis is a historical narration combining a careful approach of historical reality with completely imaginary elements. It is written in a concise way and reflects in a clear and sensitive manner the important moments of that historical period. As the author notes in his introduction, the objective of his book is an attempt to throw light at the beginning of the glorious period known as "The Golden Age" of Athens, at the first half of the fifth century BC. The book's protagonists, besides Fidippidis, are imaginary as well as historical persons that have not gained particular attention, like the polemarch Kallimachus.
