In Tribune, Kansas, a small, irregular creek runs through the woods just north of the town. It's been known as White Woman Creek for as long as anyone can remember, but the legends about where that name came from are anything but consistent. Most agree that in the 1860s, a local woman was kidnapped in the area and either killed by the Indians who captured her or else freed by nearby Cavalry Troops.
