Synopsis "The History of All Saints' Episcopal Church, 1884-1947 (in English)"

"The History of All Saints' Episcopal Church, 1884-1947", Lakeland, Florida, was compiled and written by the Honorable Herbert J. Drane during the summer of 1947. Three days after its completion, Mr. Drane died. Without his foresight and diligence, this part of Florida history would have been lost. Herbert Drane had an excellent memory of the history of All Saints' Episcopal Church, Lakeland, Florida. Herbert said, "For a half century, this is a simple story of the Little Church that grew up in the wilderness. Its Memorials have been written for those who still abide with us. Our earnest prayer and hope is that they may carry on because I grow weary and must soon seek my rest. Remember me as one who lived, loved, and worshiped at All Saints'. Mr. Drane was born in Franklin, Kentucky and moved to Lakeland, Florida, in 1883. He was one of the founding "fathers" of Lakeland, Florida (Polk County). He was an entrepreneur and had various occupations throughout his life: railroad worker, editor of the local newspaper, realtor, and citrus owner; opened the first drugstore in Lakeland (1885), and owned an insurance company. He also served as city clerk and city treasurer of Lakeland...Served as mayor of Lakeland (1888-1892); Served as County Commissioner of Polk County (1896-1899); Served as Chief Engrossing Clerk of the Florida State House of Representatives (1889-1901)...and later as a member of the Florida State House of Representatives (1903-1905). Mr. Drane served in the Florida State Senate (1913-1917)...Served as President of the Florida State Senate (1913 to 1915). He was elected to the US House of Representatives (4 March 1917-3 March 1933). President Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed Herbert Drane to a four-year term on the Federal Power Commission (1933-1937). He is the Author and Contributor of this book "History of All Saints Church, Lakeland, Florida" (Summer 1947).
