In the opening years of The First World War, soldiers lost their lives fighting men they never knew. But three men from opposite ends of the battlefield find themselves inexplicably bound in a series of events that will change their lives forever as they discover that their enemies are better friends than they could imagine. Set before and during the First World War, The Long, Long Trail focuses on the impact of the war upon the lives of those who fought in it. Three men from different countries, and on different sides of the battlefield, find their lives dramatically changed by the Trenches. Propaganda, lost love and conscription pitch Remy, Jim and Stefan into the maelstrom. Losing friends, becoming wounded, and experiencing first-hand the horrific fledgling months of the war, they are forced to find their own reasons to fight and survive until tragedy brings them all together in an unofficial truce in Ypres on Christmas of 1914. The novel climaxes with a moving account of understanding and reconciliation as three men discover that hated enemies are no more than friends, obscured by circumstance.
