Arthur Edward Waite (1867-1940) está considerado como uno de los mayores estudiosos y expertos en ocultismo y esoterismo de los últimos tiempos. Miembro de las distintas órdenes como la Masonería, la Rosacruz o la Golden Dawn, fue un profundo conocedor de los saberes ocultos, especialmente de la Cábala y de las tradiciones iniciáticas de Occidente. Escribió numerosas obras, aunque la mayor contribución por la cual fue reconocido universalmente es la de ser creador de la baraja de Tarot que lleva su nombre.
