On vacation with her boy-friend, Simon, a photo-journalist, Annya dreams of becoming a world-class reporter; instead she finds herself caught up in a nightmare. Simon is called away on a mysterious mission, but persuades her to finish out their holiday alone. The next day her usual swim in the sea goes disastrously wrong. Almost drowned by massive waves and strong tides, she limps home bleeding and shaken to find their apartment has been invaded, yet there's no sign of a break-in.
