Juan Rey es doctor en Comunicación y en Filología. Ha publicado varios libros de poesía: Mágica metrópolis, Almanaque y Navegaciones & Naufragios. En 1991 obtuvo el Premio de Novela Andalucía con Un hombre cualquiera. En 2004 quedó finalista del Premio de Novela Ateneo de Sevilla con El manuscrito de Omnium Sanctorum. Ganó en 2008 el VI Premio Iberoamericano de Relatos Cortes de Cádiz con Nuestro amigo Mustafa y en 2016 se alzó con el XX Premio de Novela Ciudad de Badajoz con la obra titulada 1369.
