A feminist post-apocalyptic story of survival, where a lone woman who has lost her entire family and every possession, strives for fulfilment in a devastated world. Joining a gang of rebels to escape from the confines of a harsh medieval-like culture, she embarks on a perilous journey across a dark, polluted ocean in an ancient ship. During the voyage, Verity suffers extremes of physical and mental anguish, in unbearably cramped living conditions where love, hate, sex and violence are almost indistinguishable from each other. She's tough, but with a vulnerability. Her inner conflict is as compelling as her story.
