Synopsis "Wardy THE KID FROM THE ROUGH END OF THE STREET (in English)"

This book is set in the 1950. It tells the true story of a young boy growing up in Rodwell Road Dulwich at the rough end of the street. This was a time when most people were homophobic, most people, black or white, were racists, most women were subordinate and all men were entitled to abuse their wives'. It's a time when most children went to bed cold, few people had a holiday, nearly everyone smoked and smoked indoors and kids could easily die of measles. It's a time of smog thickened streets, dogs poo on the pavement, corporal punishment in schools. It was also a time of poverty for many. Some still call these times "The good old days." The book focuses on a small boy's life growing up through hard times and good times. The stories are true as can be remembered but some names have been changed or left out. It contains some strong language, referrals to homosexuality and racism. None of which is meant to offend but, to give the reader a sense of the times.
