After the death of her mother, Becca Thornton is told that in order for her to collect a substantial inheritance, she must return to her childhood home in Colorado. Leaving a promising legal career in Texas, Becca and her beloved black lab, Sadie, begin their journey back to a life she thought she had escaped years before. Nearing her final destination, Mother Nature sends a blast of winter weather that effectively shuts down all travel with no end in sight. To make matters worse, Becca's car breaks down on a deserted mountain road and she must now take shelter in the forest.
